Not exactly sure what news if any is contained in todays Brett McMurphy article since Jon Wilner posted that there probably would not be a full MWC/C-USA merger back on March 26th.
Here is link to his blog article that was previously posted in this thread by another poster at http://blogs.mercurynews.com/collegespo ... d-sun-belt

from the csn board

1. Full merger now
2. Phased merger over time
3. Cooperation on TV, scheduling, marketing, etc.
4. Stay separate and rebuild separately

Yea, that LVJR writer is a laugh riot. However, he is right in insinuating the growing collective yawn the longer the alliance drags out. The reality is, both conferences on paper look pretty depleted football-wise and men's BB isn't looking good for CUSA either. Invite whoever and get on with it, because when you really examine who is left for these conferences, they are absolutely delusional if they think they'll be able to sniff a BCS bid. And if said bids are eliminated, they're still light years behind even the lowly Big East.

UTSA to CUSA? Looks like that last nail is getting pounded in the coffin made for WAC Football.

So will C-USA go to 16 teams in the next few years? Or do they lose a couple a stay with 12? Do they want JMU? If so would JMU go?

I think JMU has expressed interest in joining the CUSA-East, so they could have their rivalry with ODU (and UNC-Charlotte, too).

As a whole, the 14 schools in CUSA don't seem eager to expand. Their Football Playoff Bowl money is capped, based on a 12-team share.
So going to 16 would give each school a 75% share of what the teams in a 12 FB school confernece make.
That's a few hundred $K per school, put there are other issues when a conference gets "too big".

12mil/14=~850k
12mil/16=750k

Only ~100k difference.

IIRC CUSA has a TV deal for about a little more than 1mil per school as well.

Even with 16 CUSA will still out earn the MAC and SBC but won't get close to the AAC or MWC.

They can expand if they want to, its not going to hurt the conference...just the individuals schools bottom line by ~200k.

It honestly could offset travel costs and having to schedule body bad games in bball to add JMU and a school like Ark St or ULL.

Lets talk C-USA FB for this upcoming season. Who you got winning the conference? Can Southern Miss rebound? Who steps up and fills that vacant spot that ECU left, Will it be WKU? How will ODU do? Can C-USA produce a conference winner ranking high enough to get the Go5 access bowl bid?
