2 potential new members are Buffalo and NJIT. Buffalo would keep football in the MAC, but its other sports move to the AEC to be with the other University Centers in the SUNY system.

NJIT's current conference, the Great West Conference, is about to implode. The AEC would provide a better home.

If the CAA decides to shift to the south I could see a dream scenario where the AmEast expands and takes over the CAA FB Conference:

--Delaware and/or James Madison go to the MAC for FBS football

--William and Mary goes to the Patriot League joining their academic peers

--New Hampshire and Maine jump in and decide to take the lead amidst the crisis--they get Albany and Stony Brook to agree to be a part of AmEast football and then promptly invite Central Connecticut St and Towson to join AmEast for all-sports including football. Giving the league 6 football members.

--Villanova and Richmond are added as football affiliates, as is Rhode Island who decides not to downgrade all the way down to the NEC. The football league now has 9 members

--As a courtesy, Drexel, Northeastern, and Hofstra are invited back

Quinnipiac? I would bring in LIU. BU was the only private school in the AEC or is Hartford private too? Then put NJIT in the NEC

NJIT is definitely an option...since they are a sure YES.

But I think the plan will be to start in north (NEC) and work down the list. You've got CCSU as an option, one that could possibly fit into a future football conference. I know the AE has passed on sponsorship before, and with Stony Brook likely to leave, they might not be ideal.

But you've got Maine, UNH, Albany...can add CCSU and Monmouth and get URI for FB only. No voting rights, but still a 6 school conference...but not a symbol of stability to say the least.

I do see the rela options being:
CCSU
Quinnipiac
Bryant
Monmouth
Any other NEC school
NJIT

At worst, NJIT will be #8 if Stony brook leaves.

When speaking to our AD in the past when Bryant was transitioning there were rumors of AEast from recruits that started to make the papers. The AD said the AEast isn't an option because of the league being mostly public midsized universities.

However, at the time Bryant really wanted in the PL and I think settled on the NEC, so maybe they would move if invited.

I remember back when you guys first moved up, we were hoping the PL would take Bryant and Marist for 10.

Unfortunately it never came true. Now many Bryant Alums have PL envy and are not enthusiastic about being in the NEC.

I am surprised Bryant is in the discussion with AEast. Not what I expected.
