Curious as to everyone's thoughts on this:

College of Charleston---to CAA
Davidson--to CAA
UNC Greensboro--to CAA

Central Connecticut St--to AEC/CAA fb affiliate

Liberty--to SoCon
Coastal Carolina--to SoCon
Jacksonville St--to SoCon

North Alabama--to OVC

Big South possibly adds 2 A-Sun schools as full members?

Non-Scholarship/Low Scholarship football only conference in the Southeast forms including:
VMI
Campbell
Davidson
Gardner-Webb
Presbyterian
Charleston Southern
Kennesaw St
Mercer
Jacksonville
Stetson
This conference could be ran out of the Big South Conference's office in much the same way the MVFC is at the MVC office.

Remaining Pioneer FB League members possibly become the Western Division of the NEC? Pioneer would be left with 7 members and so would the NEC so its possible they both stay afloat.

(another option is the remaining Big South football schools get absorbed as NEC affiliates and the PFL stays out of the realignment.)

Everyone gets a stable home and most everyone ends up happy with where they end up.

thats not a bad idea except I think Kennesaw is looking to be full FCS scholarship football and therefore an attractive candidate for the SoCon.

Translation: Plan A has failed because none of the schools we targeted for full membership were interested in joining our conference; we will now devise plan B.

We knew C of C took their CAA invitation to a board meeting a month ago.
Not a peep from the other invitees: Davidson & Appalachian State.
Maybe the CAA will be happy with 10 members.

Invite CCSU to AE (CAAFB members #12), and call it a day !

SoCON can re-stock with North Alabama and West Georgia (both FB schools) in preparation for Appy St. and Georgia Southern moving to SunBelt FBS one day.

So if that blog is to be believed, Davidson is a NO for CAA.

I believe the BOT meeting at College of Charleston is scheduled for this Friday 10/19/12.
CAA invitation is to be on the agenda.
Not clear what the recommendation of the athletic department is....
they had a public meeting several weeks ago a few weeks ago, and it sounded as though opinion was split....

So if Charleston and Davidson were offered invites who else was offered one to make 12. I know they said they wanted App St. but they didn't say they were considering or rejecting the CAA. CAA must have known they were either going FBS or staying, they must have had another option lined up for 12.

It seemed initially, per the thread history, that the 3 schools were invited (in one way or another). It would seem it was done to enhance the chances of them joining. For instance, if you're App St., having 2 other Carolina schools plus UNCW might be something favorable, even if they don't have football.

I just don't see a huge driver for this realignment.
Maybe add C of C for 10 and stop.

I still feel they could contemplate a merger with American East, and
realign into North and South Divisions, and cut the travel dramatically for Northeastern, Hofstra, and UMBC.
It might have the effect of stabilizing the entire group of schools.

Davidson might find it more appealing if they didn't have to travel much further north than Delaware / Drexel.

Thing is, the CAA wouldn't need to merge as they have the numbers...unlike in 2001 when the merger talk happened originally.

The CAA could have just picked the schools they wanted from the AE, like say Maine, UNH with football and any others. Instead, they opted to go after the best possible schools for them.

The CAA situation is an interesting one. With only GMU as the lone reputable program, it will be interesting to see how things play out.
