Assume that Baylor got voted out of the Big XII for troubles surrounding its basketball program. Who would you look for a replacement? To everyone that posts on this board, you can decide.

The only way a "supermajority" vote happens is if the Texas schools vote against Baylor...and the only way that would happen is if a Texas school replaced Baylor.

To me, it would be more logical if I went for a southern school (i.e. TCU and Arkansas) so that we wouldn't mess the divisions up, the only way we get a school from the north is to go to 14, that would mean adding another southern school and adding one of the northern schools. (i.e. BYU and Colorado State)

BEfounder, if Missouri left the Big 12, and you replace them with TCU, you have given the southern schools the majority in the Big 12. I was replacing with Missouri with BYU, which is a northern school for another northern school swap.

*Looks at DNDFan's post on BYU replacing Mizzou* Shoot! I forgot that! Sorry DNDFan, I didn't know about that. But I actually wrote that to assume the six BIG XII north schools stayed together, and that I would add a southern school to replace Baylor. I would add a northern school if the BIG XII decided to go to 14.

I disagree if Arkansas said they would leave the SEC for the Big 12 they would vote baylor out in a minute. But they might just keep baylor along with arkansas and add one more team to the picture maybe TCU or Colorado St.

I think conferences will go to 14 teams why because then they could have a real conference championship that way no team will have to play another team from the other division. ie no team in the south division will have to play a team up north that way when they meet in a championship game its a true champion. just my opinion

FBg, the Homer pic seemed to fit you better than Bart.

Don't think B12 changes anytime soon. Baylor's self imposed sanctions with basketball may be rided out. Their fb coach is Guy Morriss from Kentucky, and obviously the bb program will get cleaned up, which means probably, winning will take awhile.

Conferences have been reluctant to dismiss teams due to sanctions. They don't want the same fate or precedence. Temple's fb exit from the BE was not about cheating---maybe if the really cheated, they would be OK in the domain of college fb ::).

There are two teams that I believe should not be counted out of Big 12 expansion or replacement candidates (say if Texas Tech or Oklahoma State decides to bolt): SMU and Rice. These schools have very close ties with the University of Texas, and the 'Horns wield a lot of power within the Big 12. They also give the Big 12 schools with very good academics and a presence in large metro areas. :)

One other reason for a conference to expand would be to preserve itself in light of competition; ie-There may be no direct benefit financially by adding members, but the expansion would keep another credible competitor from entering our territory.

Should there be some reshaping of the WAC/CUSA/SunBelt that produced a more formidable football conference within the southwest, would the Big 12 consider a pre-emptive strike for the likes of a TCU? I don't think that conference needs another Texas school or would benefit (as a sporting conference) from a Tulane, but I do imagine that the last thing Texas, A&M and Tech want to see is more schools capable of challenging their stranglehold on the local recruiting and fanbase front.

Consensus seems to be that schools within this region would benefit from having the WAC or CUSA shift their footprint to make this their primary area, and could ultimately create a stronger conference. Much of the best among the mid-majors comes from this area and could easily become as good as/better than the MWC or CUSA as the best non-BCS league around. And while I don't think TCU, North Texas or Houston will ever knock Texas off the football radar, they certainly could make life harder for the Longhorn faithful if they ever got their acts together.

Quite a few years ago, when there was the old Southwest Conference, and scholarships were pretty much unlimited; the Southwest Conference decided to bring in another Texas school that was giving conference members some real grief in recruiting, and were wining well on their own. That last Southwest Conference admission went to the University of Houston.
