Here is my outside of the box idea

18 team league - 3 6 team divisions you play home and home (10 games) 6 to 8 interdivisonal games (3 to 4 from each division)

East - Richmond, Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Seton Hall, Providence
Midwest- Marquette, DePaul, Xavier, Butler, St. Louis, Creighton
West- Gonzaga, Portland, St. Mary's, San Francisco, San Diego, Pepperdine

If a western wing is wanted it will take more than 2 schools. This makes travel bearable while still leaving room for some quality interdivisional made for tv dollars matchups.

Per that article, we could be looking at

Richmond, Georgetown, Villanova, St. John's, Seton Hall, Duquesne, Providence
Marquette, DePaul, Creighton, Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis, Butler

That would be very solid too and would eliminate the west coast travel concerns

I would love this 14-team line up but unfortunately I think the target is a 12 team league so a couple of these schools, Duquesne and someone else, are going to get left behind.

I say they add

Dayton

I would say VCU over Dayton talent wise but I just don't know if 11 private schools would want 1 public. Richmond is a good market too.

It will be interesting to see if Xavier, Dayton, St. Louis, and Butler sell themselves as a package deal. If not Dayton runs the risk of getting left behind due to market overlap with Xavier. That would be ashame.

Atlantic 10
URI, Northeastern, St. Bony, Fordham, Hofstra,
La Salle, St. Joe's, George Washington, VCU, GMU


CAA
Delaware, Drexel, Towson, JMU, WMU
UNCW, CoC, Coastal Carolina, UNCG, UNCA

Here's the thing, if the Catholic 7 go to 8, 9, 10, or 11 they can add just about anyone they wish but if its 12, 14, 16, or 18 they will strive to keep the 5 original Big East schools together add form a Midwestern league for DePaul and Marquette.

Dayton, Xavier, Butler, St Louis, Creighton, Detroit, Wichita St are all schools that would only be in that Midwestern wing.

Richmond, VCU, Davidson are all schools that would only be in the East Coast wing, and Duquesne is the only school that could go in either but with the lack of candidates in the East they will most likely end up there.

Quite honestly an 18 team league could be unmanageable but does have pretty solid marketability.

West - Wichita St, Creighton, St Louis, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, Detroit, Dayton, Xavier
East - Providence, St John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Duquesne, Georgetown, Richmond, VCU, Davidson

That line up looks really good in competitiveness and marketability the only thing that may be worth switching out is one of Richmond/VCU with another New England school like Boston, Holy Cross, or Northeastern but those are iffy to me.

For 16 I'd trim off Witchita St (little market) and Richmond/VCU (I'll do VCU for the example) for the same reason I put above.

West - Creighton, St Louis, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, Detroit, Dayton, Xavier
East - Providence, St John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Duquesne, Georgetown, Richmond, Davidson

I honestly like this line up the best, anymore and you lose some solid markets or great competition.

For 14 (not my favorite number) I'd lose Detroit (great market but not much else) and probably Davidson (Southern school less in common with the rest)

West - Creighton, St Louis, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, Dayton, Xavier
East - Providence, St John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Duquesne, Georgetown, Richmond

For 12 I think its really complicated, in the West its either Dayton or Creighton and in the East its obviously either Duquesne or Richmond

West - St Louis, Marquette, DePaul, Butler, Xavier, Dayton/Creighton
East - Providence, St John's, Seton Hall, Villanova, Georgetown, Duquesne/Richmond

If a coast to coast super conference came about, there wouldn't be a WCC or WAC as we currently know them. If the WCC got below 7 schools it would be in the same boat the WAC is in right now.

Once the WAC's grace period expires, this would likely be the "left behind" conference:

Seattle
Portland
San Francisco
Santa Clara
Pacific
CSU-Bakersfield
Pepperdine (or Loyola Marymount)
Utah Valley
Grand Canyon
New Mexico State
UTPA

If the Big East defectors grab Denver I have the Summit taking Chicago State.

The other route would be to raid the Big West and have the Big West kill the WAC, but I don't know how appealing it would be to the Big West's members.

Probably not. I don't see the snobby WCC schools adding all the WAC schools. They probably just add Seattle and Denver. Denver has always wanted to be in the WCC--they would bail on the Summit for the WCC if an offer ever came.

agreed. Seattle and Denver are two schools that would love to be in the WCC. If they lost 2, than those 2 would join in a heartbeat.
