Here goes mine:

My rules:

12 team maximum conference (for FB AND BB)
Geography matters
Big 10, Pac 10, SEC schools as of 1/1/2000 stay in place. All others subject to move
No independents in football.
24-team FBS Playoff, all Conf Champs get AQ
One freebie (i.e. I can place my alma mater in any conf as long as it doesn't violate above rules)

Won't likely happen, but were the Big East to finally collapse, I think the Metro reforms with football, looking like:

Metro East
Louisville
Cincinnati
South Florida
Central Florida
Memphis
Houston
UAB
Charlotte

Metro West
SMU
UTEP
UNM
UNLV
SDSU
BSU
Tulsa
AFA

80's flashback:

Let's suppose Penn State gets the nod from the Big East, stops its talks with the Big Ten behind the scenes, and football is sponsored by the conference by the '87-'88 year. The conference picks up for football:

Syracuse
Boston College
Pittsburgh
Penn State
Rutgers
Army
Navy
Temple
West Virginia

Who do you think, at that time, would have gotten slot #10 out of the following list and why?

Notre Dame
Miami
Florida State
South Carolina
Virginia Tech
Villanova (provisional deal to upgrade back into Division 1A)
Connecticut

I'm not sure if UConn had what it took to upgrade back then, playing with what they were at the time, but I think the Irish could have joined this, and if not them, maybe South Carolina. I'm not sure the conference would have gone to Florida still with such a northern tilt.

How about all the above! Except switch Georgia Tech with Nova. That would be a dream 16 team conference.

As much of a longshot as it might seem, based on the trends of the past 2 years, it might not be a stretch to look 10-20 years down to road and think that conferences at 14 might eye 16-18...and if the Big Ten were to expand beyond 12, that the ACC could be the top target, much like the Big East was in the past 2 years.

For instance, there's always speculation that perhaps one day the SEC looks at VA Tech and even NC State. Well, maybe the Big Ten one day looks to the same region, with expansion to 16 with Maryland, Virginia, Duke and UNC. You've got FSU, GA Tech, Clemson as potential Big 12 candidates as longshots. At that point, why note throw in Wake Forest for #14 to give some NC exposure to the eastern flank (WVU, WFU, Clemson, GA Tech, FSU and 2 other schools).

4 conferences of 18 in 3 pods of 6

PAC gets Notre Dame and an Eastern POD, ND gets to choose its POD mates (Army, Navy, BC, Pitt & GT)

B1G gets UVa and UNC and agrees to Duke & UConn

SEC takes FSU (to stop BX), NCSU & VT and agrees to take Wake

BX builds with BYU, Boise & AFA in west & Cuse, L'ville, Cincinnati, Clemson & Miami in east

PAC:
POD 1: UO, OSU, UW, WSU, Cal, Stanford
POD 2: USC, UCLA, UA, ASU, UU, CU
POD 3: ND, Army, Navy, GT, Pitt, BC

BX:
POD 1: BYU, Boise, AFA, KU, KSU, ISU
POD 2: UT, TCU, TTU, BU, OU, OSU
POD 3: WV, Cuse, L'ville, Cincinnati, Clemson, Miami

B1G:
POD 1: NU, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, UM, MSU

Or maybe the magic number is 20

PAC:
Gets ND who picks Navy, Pitt, BC and Army (to go with Navy)
Next takes Air Force to complete the services
Adds Hawaii as options are limited and Boise (forget the academics feel the football)

POD 1: UW, WSU, UO, OSU, Boise
POD 2: Cal, Stanford, UCLA, USC, Hawaii
POD 3: AFA, Colorado, Utah, ASU, UA
POD 4: Notre Dame, Army, Navy, BC, Pitt

SEC:
Takes Houston to control east Texas
Adds NCSU & ECU as football powers in NC plus VT
Takes the best from its current footprint in Clemson & FSU

POD 1: Arkansas, Houston, LSU, Mizzou, TAMU
POD 2: Clemson, ECU, UF, FSU, USC
POD 3: UK, NCSU, Tennessee, Vandy, VT
POD 4: Bama, Auburn, UGA, MSU, Ole Miss

B1G:
Gets Duke & UNC plus Wake for the ride
Adds GT and UVA
Also settles for UConn

POD 1: Duke, UNC, WF, GT, UVA
POD 2: UConn, UMD, Rutgers, PSU, OSU
POD 3: Illi, Iowa, NU, Minnesota, Wisconsin
POD 4: N'western, Indiana, Purdue, UM, MSU

XII or XVI:
OK a) they have last pick b) they need to double in size c) they need to think ouside the box
first they add BYU, Miami & Cuse to form a private POD with Baylor & TCU
next they go coast to coast with UCF, USF, SDSU & Frseno
finally they get the best of the rest UC, TU & UL

POD 1: Fresno, SDSU, TTU, KU, KSU
POD 2: USF, UCF, Texas, Okla, OSU
POD 3: ISU, Cincinnati, WVU, Temple, Louisville
POD 4: Cuse, Miami, BYU, Baylor, TCU

Here's one I think would be interesting:

Pac 12:
Pac 8 division - OU, OSU, UW, WSU, Cal, Stan, USC, UCLA (the old 8)
Big 8 plus division - UA, ASU, Utah, Colorado, Kansas, KSU, OU, OSU (5 former Big 8 members plus 3 new)

Big 10:
Big 8 division - Illinois, Mich, Minn, NW, Purdue, Wisconsin, Indiana, Iowa (first 8 members)
Big 10 new division - OSU, MSU, PSU, Nebraska, MD, Rutgers, ND, ISU (next 8 in, Big 10 lives with ISU because they get ND)

SEC:
SEC 10 division - Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Miss, MSU, Tenn, Vandy, SC (technically LSU and SC should switch but for regional purposes this works better)
SWC mostly division - LSU, Missouri, Arkansas, Baylor, Texas, A&M, SMU, TCU, Texas Tech, Houston (LSU and Missouri weren't SWC members but they're already in the SEC so they stay).

ACC:
ACC 8 division - Clemson, Duke, UNC, NCST, Wake, UVA, Ga Tech, FSU
Big East division - BC, UConn, Cuse, Pitt, Miami, WVU, VaTech, Louisville (not the original 8 but close)

No conference championships, 8 division champ playoff

Rose - Pac 8 vs Big 8
Orange - ACC vs Big 10 new
Sugar - SEC 10 vs Big East
Cotton - SWC vs Big 8

And of course, MWC, BE, C-USA, or MAC champ can replace lowest conference champs when needed.

Just wondering. I'm not sure if this is college football-related or not, but I have a fan-made proposal of revival of the Metro Conference, but this time, under a new different name, and having ALL member schools that were part of that conference together. For instance, here would consist the following all-sports members, all in the original (now-defunct) Metro era (most of them are currently football-sponsoring):

Georgia Tech (from the ACC)
Florida State (from the ACC)
Virginia Tech (from the ACC)
South Carolina (from the SEC)
Southern Miss (from C-USA)
UNC-Charlotte (from C-USA starting 2013)
South Florida (from the Big East)
Virginia Commonwealth (non-football; from the A-10)
Louisville (from the ACC starting 2014)
Tulane (from the Big East starting 2014)

Also including the ones from the original (now-defunct) Great Midwest era:

Alabama-Birmingham (from C-USA)
Cincinnati (also formerly part of the Metro; from the Big East)
Dayton (non-football; from the A-10)
DePaul (non-football; from the Big East)
Marquette (non-football; from the Big East)
Memphis (also formerly part of the Metro; from the Big East)
Saint Louis (also formerly part of the Metro; from the A-10)

Divisional format mode hasn't yet been discussed, which I'll re-analyze that situation. But in the meantime, lemme know your opinions or thoughts.
