If this is true I am surprised that CCSU turned them down. They must not have been able to negotiate a CAA FB invite to accompany the AmEast invite.

You'd think they could at least get a Big South invite like Monmouth.

If the AEC added Bryant, CCSU, they would have had the 6 needed to sponsor fb. But like the Summit vs MVC, CAA could have just added Albany and Stony Brook for all sports, killing it.

NJIT

"But with the latest round of conference musical chairs opening a spot in a league with an automatic bid for basketball, NJIT is expected to push hard to join either the NEC or the America East Conference, according to an individual familiar with the school’s thinking.

While the NEC might be the more natural fit — replacing a fellow New Jersey school in Monmouth — the person said the America East is “more interested right now” in the school. The conference will see its ranks fall to eight after Boston University leaves at the end of the school year."

NJIT's prayers may have finally been answered. Unless of course Siena is interested in joining a public school league--AEC would be comfortable at 9 and both the MAAC and NEC holding at 10 leaving the Highlanders high and dry.

Siena won't leave a better MAAC for the AEC. They'll be in the A-10 after St.Louis and Dayton leave.

Is Tues. current or a future plan? That's the rumored day.

NJIT's situation is an intriguing one. For a school who just wanted to explore basketball at the top level, it did what was asked of them. However, why programs make the upgrade, and can enter with almost seamless fluidity into a conference speaks to the years of additional work programs have fostering their place with peer institutions.

Some schools simply can't make the jumps they want because they are not a desired partner. Should conference affiliation now be a prerequisite before upgrading? Kind of like it is in FBS football?
