I think they are well set-up, too.

Maybe down the road - BYU + UTEP.

Don't know if BYU burned any bridges when they left, but then again they took Boise State and SDSU back in....

Financially, BYU may be better off with their independent deal, however two factors could conspire to push them to the MWC:
1. Scheduling difficulties in the future, especially if members of these 14-member conferences go to 9 or 10-game schedules and have few openings for OOC games, and
2. The top league champion of the [was the BE], MAC, CUSA, SBC, MWC get a "BCS" Bowl slot and those leagues will split $80 million. BYU is currently frozen out of that.
BYU will only get into a "BCS" game by being in the Top 4 (NC semi-finalist), or being chosen by committee for the remaining 1 or 2 at-large spots (probably will require a Top 10 ranking).

Brett McMurphy article(previously posted in another thread)reporting that MWC is close to deal with ESPN that combined with CBS contract will pay them about $18 million per year.Link at http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story ... ng-sources

freaked is it for tier 1 and 2 or just tier 1? MWC guys say that they have 2nd deal coming w/ either nbc or fox according to the adding 2 more net rule allowed by cbs.

A12 guys say haha you(MWC) suck slightly more than us(A12)

from csn board

CCG game still to be negotiated and there are about 35 MWC football and quite a few bb games still unsold. (doubt those will bring much though). Might just be returned to the schools for them to sell. My guess is we match the BE 20 million mark or barely exceed it.

CBS has about 12-15 games
ESPN has up to 22 games

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/story/...ng-sources

Add in the tweet from Fowler that MWC will announce Tier 2 TV deal shortly

Tweet @JFowlerCBS- MWC says secondary TV rights deal to be completed very soon- even within the next few days

So basically MWC has signed a deal for 18 million for Tier 1 rights to CBS and ESPN to include approximately 37 FB games and an unknown number of BB games. This does not include the CCG but CBS does hold the rights to that so only limited negotiation are possible

Probably same as reported above. So MWC teams will get $18 mil while A 12 get $4 mil?

A12 has 22 Mill total contract 20 from ESPN and 2 from fox or whoever divided by 11.5, that's less than 2 mill per school.

And no CCG TV contract/deal right? So we can probably round up to 2 million per schools.

Meanwhile the MWC has 18 million plus more product to sell (?Root Sports/PAC12 network/Digital network/Local deals?) and a CCG so it'll be around 20 million but probably no more than 21/year definitely not equal to what the A12's deal will end up being/nor the BigEastCatholic7.

Also we don't know what the Big East/Catholic 7's TV deal is yet rumored to be as high as 40 mil as FOX sweetened the deal to get them to leave a season early but originally was to be 30 mil.

FYI CUSA has two TV deals (both only 5 years though), 1st tier w/ FOX for 42mil (total) and 2nd tier w/ CBS for 35mil, so...77mil for 5 years meaning 15.4mil a year. And the Sun Belt and MAC makes a lowly 2mil per year w/ a base ESPN deal (from the last update I saw over a year ago) mostly dealing with online streaming ESPN3.

C7BE/per school @30-40mil=2.5-3.4 mil (likely 3 mil per school when finalized)
A12/per school=~2 mil
MWC/per school=~1.8 mil (not counting bonuses w/ will help Boise St take home)
CUSA/per school=1.1 mil (at now 14 schools)
Sun Belt/per school=~200K (assuming 10 teams)
MAC/per school=~150K

A12 guys seem to say its 22 mill for everything but I don't know. I know ours doesn't include the title game. Every game a MWC school has on ESPN, ESPN2, ABC gets a 300K weeknight, 500K sat bonus that will cut into the 1.8 unless a MWC school earns the BCS game which half of that money could be used to pay their bonuses.

SD writer doesn't know sh*t. A12 is making 22 and yes MWC is making 18 but the bonuses will be paid out w/ the BCS money which will be either 1/5 of the 86 mill out of the 5 left outs(17.2 mill), or the tiered share of the BCS money which MWC will probably be top 2 most years which would be more than 17.2 mill. Plus if BSU makes the BCS game, that's another bonus, half to them half to the conf. CCG has not been accounted for yet either(I hear it's only worth 1 mill).

even if it's 1.8 vs 1.5, MWC bball>BW bball. How much will all those flights to the A12 "west" games cost Houston, SMU, Memphis, Tulane, Navy. plus the 3 east games. 4 of the 8 will be on the road every year.

MWC will exceed 20 mill per year for conf. once ccg is added, ESPN wants the game. Also Hawaii gets to keep all of its ppv $2.3 mill but only gets MWC money if the MWC goes over the 2.3 per school mark.

At 20 mill a year comes to 1.8 mill per school since Hawaii isn't in on the sharing part deal until the BCS money is thrown in.

So, we have the A12's worth, and now the MWC's worth. Time for "the chasers" to start talking to each other to see how they can make more without certain "dead weight."

It would been better for Hawaii to have full membership within the Mountain West, regardless of the success and failure within most of their sports. Besides, Hawaii in the Big West as an all-sports non-football school is like being "downgraded" in terms of competition. That's why most of the former WAC schools are in the Mountain West as of the 2010's being started. And depending on the sports the MWC sponsors, it'll be possible to split into 2 divisions, just like on football.

I'd like to toss around the idea of the MWC adding Gonzaga to balance the fact that Hawaii is a football-only member and give the conference 12 members for all sports. Sure, Gonzaga has no football team and never will but their hoops program is excellent and has been a tournament regular for some time now. The MWC is a better basketball conference than the WCC and the addition of 'Zaga only makes it deeper.

Then there is the BYU angle--the WCC is BYU's conference of convenience mainly because Gonzaga and St Mary's give that conference credibility in basketball which is the primary reason why BYU needs the WCC. If you take away the WCC's best basketball school it makes that conference less attractive to the Cougars and could cause BYU to reconsider their independent stance in football and re-join the MWC in all sports.

Even if adding Gonzaga doesn't bring BYU too Gonzaga is a very respectable add.
