Article out of Las Cruces reporting that SBC has scheduled presser for tomorrow at 5pm local to announce NMSU/SBC FB only invite at http://www.lcsun-news.com/las_cruces-sp ... -wednesday

Should it happen tomorrow, technically New Mexico State will re-join the Sun Belt since its previous tenure from 2000-01 to 2004-05 (as an all-sports member). But it would be ideal if New Mexico State gets an invite for all sports along the way in the future after their football-only invite.

The Sun Belt made two fine additions, investing in schools in good locations and much potential.

Still waiting on Tulsa's move, then WKU to find out who the final future #12 SBC member will be.

From twitter posted in above thread...

Matthew Stoss ‏@MatthewStoss
Does not appear that there have been formal discussions between JMU and the Sun Belt, though.
Matthew Stoss ‏@MatthewStoss
It's unclear what kind of interest (if any) JMU has in the Sun Belt
Matthew Stoss @MatthewStoss
To update the Sun Belt situation: It doesn't seem like JMU would be into it. So far, the interest appears to be on the SBC's end.

Brent Thibodeaux @BrentThibodeaux
I've been told that Liberty is an option for the #SunBelt but not high up on the list.
Brent Thibodeaux ‏@BrentThibodeaux
As of now the #SunBelt is preparing to lose two more schools. #JMU will get one of the conference invites.

Finally!

Love the Happy Appy and Southern moves, been advocating it for at least 2 years.

The NMSU move is okay, a little out of the footprint, probably inevitable if or when WKU leaves.

Don't like the Idaho move at all. Idaho really doesn't do anything for the other Sun Belt schools. Idaho is the only one that benefits in this deal.

Would have like to see JMU or Liberty instead of Idaho. I'm sure they are on the short list when WKU leaves. Jacksonville State is a good short list candidate but I don't like the idea of a 3rd Alabama school in the Sun Belt.

Hey Florida Gulf Coast, ever consider foosball? :P

I still want to see UALR and UT-Arlington to re-instate football to match things up.

At this point, am I the only one who would just like to see CUSA and the Sun Belt merge? After Tulsa leaves, is there really that much of a difference between the 2?

East- Appalachian, Charlotte, FAU, FIU, Marshall, Old Dominion
South- UAB, Georgia State, Georgia Southern, MTSU, South Alabama, Troy
Central- Arkansas State, Louisiana, La. Tech, Monroe, Southern Miss, WKU
West- NMSU, North Texas, Rice, UTEP, UTSA, Texas State

Maybe. Maybe not. But the only thing in common does the Sun Belt and C-USA have is that both are in the Southeast U.S. region.

Despite the easier travel C-USA and the Sunbelt won't ever merge. Sure it makes perfect sense to many of us but not to them. C-USA, as the older more established football conference feels innately superior to the younger Sunbelt. C-USA also has the better media markets, and up until the most recent conference shifts programs that clearly outspent and outperformed their Sunbelt counterparts. C-USA also has a far better tv contract and merging with the SBC would dilute that pool of money.

Some of that distinction has eroded recently with C-USA adding some nascent programs purely for their markets and potential. It would be hard to argue that the bottom of half of C-USA is better than lets say Arkansas St, UL Monroe, and UL Lafayette but Tulane and now LA Tech would never allow them into C-USA
