If it really happens, then the Horizon and the Summit must merged together to become one. While the Dakota schools (UND, USD, NDSU and SDSu) and Nebraska-Omaha must choose either the MVC or the WAC.

No mergers...just raids

Big East raids MVC/A10 (for Creighton/Butler/Xavier)
MVC/A10 raids Horizon (for 3+ schools, though I think Belmont/Oral Roberts may be candidates too)
Horizon raids Summit/WAC (for 4 schools since they still haven't replaced Butler, likely the one West of the Mississippi)

The Summit might be able to keep the Dakota schools, UNO, and Denver with an option to add UND for 6 but they'll still need at least 2 more, so they'll try for the WAC schools Chicago St/UMKC for 8 and possibly UtahValley/Seattle for 10 but that may not work.

Like FSA said on another thread, the WAC may end up raiding the Summit especially if NDSU/SDSU join the Horizon. Then SDU would likely join the Big Sky along with UND.

No matter what, both the Summit and WAC should probably be on the phone with some of the upgrade candidates.

If it wasn't for the puzzling UMKC move from the Summit to the WAC we'd assume that the Summit would just cherry pick the WAC, so now all future move are really uncertain.

I really hope all this realignment leads to at least one conference getting dissolved.

Preferably two or three.

Aside from the Great West (one school left),

you have the Big East (probably adding two)
The A-10 (probably adding 1 to 3)
The Sun Belt (probably adding 3)
The MAAC (at 11)
The MAC (at 13)
The MVC, CAA, AmEast, Summit each at nine.

If we could end up with 30 conferences, 38 MBB at-larges, that'd be fantastic.

For the Great West to officially and formally dissolve, NJIT MUST be in a conference within its region, whether it be the AmEast, the NEC, the A-10 or the MAAC. For basketball games, NJIT can host their home games at the Prudential Center until the school plans to construct an on-campus multi-purpose arena for most of their sports (men's & women's basketball, volleyball, ice hockey).

I like 32, nice breakdown. The bottom feeders can bring in D-II members before the door closes. I'd like 32 conferences of 12-16 members. Ivy can stay at 8. So 31. That should be enough for D-II and D-III to finish off the NAIA.

Really? I've never heard of a 1 team conference, once you get below 5 you're dead.

Me neither, but check on the latest via its Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_West_Conference Most of them are heading to the WAC, leaving NJIT the sole survivor. It's obvious that the conference should dissolve soon once this season is over.

I help run the linked page to that, at the end of the school year I'll move NJIT to Indy and take the GWC off of the D-I bball conference page.

Ok. I respect that. So NJIT will officially re-join back to Independent status as of this July. Aside from that, still wondering what would be in store as far as the conference realignment for the Horizon, Summit and MVC go.

If Valparaiso (or Valpo within the school itself) plans to join the MVC, its football program can possibly join the MVFC from the PFL.

No, they'll stay in the PFL like Drake

Sounds fair enough. Then Valparaiso would be a great addition as a non-football all-sports member for the MVC.
