That NC/SC/GA area is going to be interesting to see what happens in the future with the CAA moving in, AppSt/GASo possibly moving up, and Davidson possibly joining a big boy bball conference. Assuming no conferences die off, there should be plenty of room for D2's in the coming years.

I'd throw in UAH, North Alabama, and possibly Montevallo and Tuskegee as well. Huntsville will probably be the largest city in Alabama in the next census, and Alabama fits the A-Sun and OVC footprints, and could work for the Big South or Southland. If any conference dies it will be the Peach Belt.

Tuskegee is already competitive with Alabama State (FCS) in football, and would have a home in the SWAC or MEAC.

Not the Peach Belt they have 14 members, you mean the Gulf South, they have UNA, UAH, UWF, UWG who could all move up.

Looks like only about a half-dozen applicants for D-2 this year (see The Senior Report).

The past few years, the membership committee has limited themselves to 8-10 approvals (max.).
This year conceivably all of the applicants could get in, however one criteria is sponsorship from an existing D-2 conference, and I'm not sure all applicants have that (most do).

D-2 membership committee should release their acceptance notifications toward the end of next week.

Are we to assume that all of these schools have secured invites from either the GSC or SAC?

Thanks, Fresno.

So Mississippi College is currently D-3, the other 4 are all in the NAIA SSAC.
If all of the latter 4 are approved, that would take the SSAC from 16 down to 12 (1 is a women's college - Brenau).

Another SSAC school (Loyola, New Orleans) is thinking of moving up, possibly applying for D-2 in 2014.
I think Xavier of Louisiana (currently in NAIA GCAC) is eyeing a move to the SSAC, perhaps to take that spot.

Annual NCAA D2 membership meeting wraps up today.

As of 4 edt = 3cdt, have not seen any announcements. The Senior Report (very much on top of it) has nothing yet.

Expect to see announcements of who is IN and who is OUT for the 5 applicants tomorrow (7/12/13).

Auburn-Montgomery & Spring Hill approved for D2.

Emmanuel, Mississippi College and Southern Wesleyan denied.

It appears McMurry (2015), Lee (2016) and Rogers St. (2016) were delayed a year.
