I like Mike Leach. Any coach that can discuss Bigfoot and extraterrestrials has my interest.

Nice analysis by Wilner.

I suspect the ratings for Olympic sports are abyssmal on all Conference Networks.

Seemingly, the regional networks only benefit is ability to simultaneously air separate games, which might enhance viewership in each region. But the big network (ESPN) is already airing the #1 game separately.

Random thought but I would like to see the 4 schools that were originally going to jump to "Big East" BYU, Boise St, Colorado St, and SDSU join the Pac-12 and form a Pac-16.

Pac 8 Division
Washington
Washington St
Oregon
Oregon St
Cal
Stanford
UCLA
USC

Rocky Mtn Division
Arizona
Arizona St
Colorado
Colorado St
Utah
BYU
SDSU
Boise St

I know competitively I doubt they would let the divisions fly, but how many classic rivalries does that renew? I also know the Pac would probably never let in a religious school, but it's fun to think about.

This is the tip of the iceberg that is just around the corner in major college sports. The big brand name guys in the power leagues are going to want a bigger piece of the pie and will demand it or leave the little power guys behind. The Big 12 had to let Texas keep its LHN to insure Texas remained in the league. The same will be true of other leagues as well. The Big Ten and SEC may be fine for possibly the next decade because those two leagues currently make so much money to share with the entire members to keep those schools ahead of the other power leagues. In time revenue issues with catch up with those leagues as well and you will see the big brand names such as Ohio State, Florida, Alabama, Michigan want a bigger share of the pie they bring to those power leagues.

With Disney buying up FOX and merging ESPN and FOX networks, there will be less competition and lead to less money paid for huge TV contracts. The big brand college schools are going to be more demanding of what their worth they bring to a particular power league.

The Big 12 TV consultancy firms last year discussed the possibly of power leagues going away in the future for football and possibly other sports as well.
