Since when ?????
They are certainly among the top 5 conferences....
Meyer and OSU won the first CFP. Since then Michigan State and Ohio State have been humiliated in the CFP semi-finals 38-0 and 31-0, respectively.

Right now they have several teams ranked highly, residue from the know-nothing pre-season positioning.
Once they play each other and a few decent out-of-conference opponents, we'll see how this all shakes out for 2017.

Gotta be wary of Sports reporting from New York Times. Lots of "East-Coast bias" and detachment from reality.....
