San Jose State has been building an inordinate amount of publicity (and probably attendance) for events tangentially related to the football program (e.g. home game against Grambling, player with prosthetic leg) and has already had two home games nationally televised so far this season. Don't fret, the gimmicks should run out eventually and the attendance should fall back down...

So true but they belong in the new Big West if it came back as a 1-AA

That La. Monroe and EMU are not on that list tells me the requirement should be higher.

For these schools I would love to see a direct relation between the athletic department's overall financial health and the average attendance.

so it looks life buffalo and kent state arent going to make the requirements. central michigan and ohio are close enough to make it imo. with marshall and c. fla probably leaving, this leaves 10 mac teams in a good regionally based conference.

One catch - without UCF and Marshall the calibre of the MAC goes down and the conference loses two of it's better draws. How much of those averages is buoyed by people attending games against Marshall? Further, at ten members the conference loses it's championship game (if the "12" rule holds), meaning even less money and TV time for the conference. Further, still, there'd be more cause for one or two other schools to shop themselves around for another conference unless the MAC can propose a better rebuilding scheme.

All three of these schools play at home this weekend, so they will be worth evaluating come Monday.
Buffalo plays Marshall who should travel well, so they may move up.
Idaho will always be suspect because their dome only seats 16,000. They basically need to sell out just to meet minimum standards. :P

8-)
