Suppose you ask any football college fan who the best college football team of all time, you’ll most likely get different answers. Some of them might surprise you even. This just means that this question requires a heftier qualifier that will make them think of their choices. Of course, disagreements will be here and there, but in reality, you can’t compare any of the teams since they’re continually evolving their players and gameplay.

However, we aren’t here for that today. In this article, we’ll talk about the most popular and successful college football team in no particular order.

That said, here are our top 5 best college football teams in no particular order.

1956 Oklahoma Sooners

This is a no brainer as Oklahoma Sooners is one of the greatest teams of all time. Of their ten opponents, only four of them scored a point against the Sooners. During this season, they only allowed 51 points, which is the second-best in the nation. Not only that, but they have 46.6 points on average per game, which is an excellent number since it’s higher than the number 2 offense at the time, which is 16 points lower.

This is possible with the help of Tommy McDonald and Clendon Thomas, which together surpassed 1000 yards and a total of 33 touchdowns all season. Not only that, McDonald and Jerry Tubbs, which is the team’s offensive lineman at the time, finished third and fourth, respectively, in the Heisman voting.

2005 Texas Longhorns

The 2005 Texas Longhorns had the best quarterback back in the 2005 season. With their strong team composition, they’re able to take down one of the best teams in the season. Vince Young, in particular, had an outstanding performance in the Rose Bowl and was able to meet the USC Trojans from Southern California.

Not only that, but he was also able to play toe to toe with Heisman Trophy winners Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush. Back in the 2005 season, the Texas Longhorns had an average of 50.2 points all season. During this season, they beat four top-ranked teams, including the Trojans and Ohio State Buckeyes.

2018 Clemson Tigers

In 2018, the Clemson Tigers entered a game against the Alabama Crimson Tide, making them a 5-point underdog. However, they proved the specialists wrong during the game since they completely dominated Alabama before halftime occurred. This was possible with freshman quarterback Trevor Lawrence who dominated the Alabama defense and finished the game with 347 passing yards and three touchdowns.

Their season was almost perfect, except for two games that proved to be difficult, but they managed to win in the early phases of the season. During that time, Dabo Swinney had a difficult decision to make since he wanted to bench Kelly Bryan and Lawrence after alternating the two in their first four games. However, after their 5th game, the team is barely challenged by their opposing teams. By beating Alabama, they are the first team to finish with 15-0 since Penn in 1897.

2019 LSU Tigers

This one is still fresh on our minds. In last year’s season, the LSU Tigers managed to defeat seven teams in the top 10 rankings. An exemplary figure in the team was quarterback Joe Burrow who, during the season, smashed multiple FBS records while finishing his breakout season with 5671 yards and 60 touchdowns.

On the other hand, wide receivers Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase both had 80-plus receptions that had at least 1500 yards and 18 touchdowns. In conclusion, the 2019 LSU Tigers made a total of 726 points in a single season, which made them score no fewer than 36 points in 14 out of the 15 games during the season.

2013 Florida State Seminoles

The 2013 Florida State Seminoles are the highest-scoring team in the history of college football. Simply put, they were extremely talented in all phases because of their adaptive lineup. During this season, the team was led by Jimbo Fisher and James Winston, who has a Heisman Trophy in his belt. The team has an average of 51.6 points per game and only allowed 12.1 each contest.

It’s kind of unbelievable, but averaging 39.5 points over your opponents will show you how strong the 2013 Florida State Seminoles is. It’s no surprise that they were the national champs during that time. Throughout the season, they were able to win their five games against ranked opponents, including Clemson Tigers with 51-14, Miami Hurricanes with 41-14, and Auburn Tigers with 34-31.

Takeaway

This is our list of the best college football teams in no particular order. However, as the years pass by, we are always excited to see which team will prevail during every season, potentially having a spot on this list. With every season, there’s always a possibility of a team surfacing who can match all of the teams in this list, so we’ll always keep you posted.
